Children’s eyes are always developing and it’s important to have them examined regularly to ensure their eyes are still healthy. Detecting conditions or vision loss early makes them much easier to correct and treat.
Vision loss affects every part of a child's life from education to socialising and safeguarding, so a regular eye examination is an important part of their health care.
KID'S EYE TESTS
Untreated eye conditions and vision loss can have serious consequences on health and development.
Our eye examinations for children are focused on early detection to ensure that any eye problems are diagnosed and corrected early on. We use a set of core tests to check our young patients’ sight and eye health and can run additional tests if necessary.
Our team also works hard to make it a friendly and comfortable environment for children and teenagers.
All children under the age of 16 are entitled to free eye examinations through the NHS. Teenagers under 19 in full-time education are also eligible.
WHAT IS MYOPIA & WHY IS IT AN ISSUE?
Myopia, also known as shortsightedness, refers to the inability to focus clearly on distant objects.
There are increasing numbers of children with myopia and researchers predict that by 2050 as much as 50% of the world’s population will be myopic.
While myopia cannot be cured, a series of ‘myopia control’ options have been developed that slow down the progression of myopia.
We offer two methods of effective myopia control: spectacle lenses and contact lenses. Both of these utilise specially developed lenses to control myopia and with the choice of spectacles and contact lenses, we’ll be able to help you find an option that works well for you and your child.
